Author & Publisher

Richard Bevan was educated at Oxford University and Manchester Business School. After early experience in manufacturing management with Lever Brothers, he worked for Towers Perrin (now WTW) in Europe, Australia, and the United States, including five years leading the firm’s worldwide communication consulting practice. In 1995, he started his own firm advising clients on organizational communication, leadership, and change management. He was also an external faculty member for the University of Washington Executive MBA program, where he developed and taught a course in managing change. The approaches that he developed and applied as a leader, consultant, and educator provided the framework and experience for his first book, Changemaking, and its companion The Changemaking Checklists. The second edition of Changemaking (2024) combines, updates, and replaces both of the earlier books. Richard lives in Seattle. His non-business interests include cooking, sailing, hiking, tennis, writing, travel, gardening, and spending time with his family. In 2010, he managed to combine half of these pursuits in a sailing trip across the Atlantic Ocean from Saint Lucia to the Azores. He was responsible for provisioning and cooking, and for a daily blog. In addition to the book that resulted from that voyage, The Galley Slave’s Handbook, and the Changemaking books, he has published a wide variety of articles. He has also published two books for children, The Hidden Triceratops and The Tangled Pteranodon. He now focuses on writing and publishing through ChangeStart Press. He has been a regular speaker at forums such as the Conference Board and the International Association of Business Communicators. He served on boards of advisors for ROI Communication and McKinsey & Company, and as a volunteer reader for Learning Ally, the world’s leading provider of audiobooks for learning- and reading-challenged children and young adults.
